"Ewwww, she's using fake flowers!" This is what I hear so often on all those wedding shows on TLC. You know the ones. Fake is always less appealing than real, but does it have to be that bad? I don't think so.
Real flowers, of course, do have a lot of advantages. They smell pretty. They are poised in a certain way that just makes them look full of life. They provide a soft touch. But if you don't touch them, how obvious are fake flowers?
Fake flowers have their advantages too. Specifically for weddings or other events, you can arrange the flowers beforehand and not worry about last-minute arrangements. You don't have to worry about keeping the flowers fresh-looking.
I am leaning toward having fake flowers at my wedding because it is more economical. The only thing is, I will need to read up on flower arrangement so I can construct some pretty things. Fake flowers can be more costly if you go for the ones that really look really real, but I don't need that. As I've mentioned before, weddings are about the couple, not the decorations.
What is your opinion on fake flowers? Would/did you use them at your wedding, and would you use them in your home?
I am with you on the flower dilemma! I vote fake flowers if they are cheaper. The wedding is about you two, not what people think. People will always have an opinion lol :)
ReplyDeleteYou are so right. Everyone will always believe whatever they want to. It's OUR day so what they think doesn't matter (within reason lol)!
DeleteBeautiful flowers!! I am nominating you for a Liebster Award!

Thank you! Oh my goodness thanks for the award!
DeleteWe had real flowers with our wedding, but they came with the package we bought. I don't think there is anything wrong with fake flowers! They can be just as beautiful as real ones, but they're also much easier to save and put in a shadow box (or used for some other craft project). No matter what you do people will always have an opinion, but that doesn't matter because it is your day. Do whatever you want! I'm sure whatever you choose will look great.
ReplyDeleteThat's nice that your flowers were included! You're right about doing crafts with the fake flowers; that is a fantastic idea!
DeleteMy mother is a HUGE flower fan, so we had real flowers at my wedding (and they were g-o-r-g-e-o-u-s), but I don't think fake flowers are bad. Some look lovely, and when arranged properly, nobody knows they aren't real. :) Bonus points if they're cheaper, too, because goodness knows planning a wedding is a costly venture...
ReplyDeleteIt sure is costly! Gotta save where you can!
DeleteRachel, I'm all about relaxing and enjoying things. If it's a little easier, a little thriftier, and is still something I'm happy with, why not? :) Artificial flowers can be kept as keepsakes, no one's allergic to them, and they look great during the entire ceremony and reception- no wilting, no browning! How many bridal pictures have I seen with the groom and/or groomsmen sporting sad little tipped-over rose boutonnieres- the rose's neck just wilted right over and took the rose bud with it, lol.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, my daughter and I made her wedding flowers (fake, but let's call them "silk", lol!), and it was a fun activity for us to do together. We shopped for them, then spent a few afternoons chatting and arranging them and getting the ribbons just right. ♥
Thank you so much for sharing this at Treasure Box Tuesday! :)
I used fake flowers at my wedding. I've been married for *almost* 2 years. I brought one of my bridesmaids bouquets (not sure who left it behind!) to work with me a few months ago and Valentine's Day this year, someone commented on my beautiful flowers from my husband. Because I made the bouquet myself, I was pleased to let them know they were actually flowers from my wedding! They couldn't believe it. Thought they were real.
ReplyDeleteI am very pro fake flowers. You can use them again in arrangements or as decor. My bridal bouquet is next to a larger wedding photo. :)
